Reply Rate

The percentage of recipients who reply to an outbound message — the most honest early read on whether targeting and copy are working in cold email.

Reply rate is the share of contacted prospects who write back. Unlike open rate, it cannot be inflated by image pre-fetching, so it is the most trustworthy early indicator of whether a cold campaign's list and messaging are landing. Positive reply rate — replies that show interest rather than annoyance — is the number worth optimizing.

Reply rate ties directly to downstream meeting-booked rate, since every meeting starts with a reply. Lifting it comes from sharper targeting, relevant personalization, and a clear ask, while what happens after the reply — speed of follow-up and quality of objection handling — determines how many of those replies become booked meetings.
