Do Not Call Registry
The federal list of phone numbers that have opted out of telemarketing calls. Scrubbing against it is a compliance requirement before cold calling.
The National Do Not Call Registry is the FTC-maintained list of consumers who've asked not to receive telemarketing calls. Before a cold-calling campaign, lists are scrubbed against it so registered numbers are removed, reducing legal exposure and wasted dials on people who've already said no.
DNC scrubbing works alongside the TCPA rather than replacing it — the registry covers telemarketing solicitation, while the TCPA governs autodialers, prerecorded calls, and texting consent. Serious operators treat both as part of the same compliance step before any list goes to the dialer.
