The full set of customers a service business has already sold equipment to or served — the warmest source of repeat and referral revenue.
An install base is the population of past customers a contractor has equipment installed for or has served before — every HVAC system, water heater, or roof on record. It is an owned asset that competitors cannot buy, and the cheapest leads a service business has because these people already trust the brand.
Mining the install base for maintenance renewals, replacement timing, and referrals usually beats spending on new cold leads. A business that tracks install dates and equipment age can reach out exactly when a system is due, converting service history into predictable repeat revenue.
